Material Guide
Stainless steel
There are many benefits to choosing a medical ID made from stainless steel. It’s strong and durable, unisex, waterproof, nickel free and hypo-allergenic. It can be used in designs that mimic the look of silver without the risk of tarnishing. Stainless steel is easy to care for and can be cleaned by simply wiping with a jewelry polishing cloth.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is a precious metal and medical alert bracelets made from sterling look beautiful and are affordable when compared to the cost of white gold. Sterling is easy to clean with a polishing cloth but we don’t recommend dipping your sterling silver medical ID jewelry into liquid silver cleaner. The liquid can harm the patina that’s placed in the recessed area of many beads. The dark patina is what highlights the texture and nuance of these special handmade items.
Vermeil
Pronounced "ver-may", Vermeil jewelry consist of pieces which have a sterling silver base that is then plated gold, rose gold or rhodium.
Rhodium + Palladium Plating
Rhodium plated medical alerts have a high shine and this rare, expensive plating helps extend the life of your medical ID bracelet. The nature of rhodium plating is that it’s a hard, durable protective layer that resists scratches and wear. A thin layer of rhodium plating is all that’s needed to achieve the benefits without adding greatly to the cost of your medical ID jewelry. The additional process of adding palladium plating provides even more scratch resistance. These platings will wear over time and it’s not unusual to expect the plating to lose its shine over the years.
Gold Filled
The benefit of using gold filled beads when making women’s medical ID bracelets is that the warm, lustrous finish is permanent and looks great year after year. Gold is a soft metal and a hollow gold bead could never withstand the wear and tear it would be exposed to when worn on a bracelet. However, when a brass bead is dipped in 14kt gold it doesn’t tarnish, wear off or age with time.
12kt Gold Plating
Medical ID bracelets and medical dog tags plated in gold cost a fraction of those made from sold gold. 12kt gold plated jewelry has the same rich warmth and soft sheen you’d expect from solid gold and makes an excellent alert bracelet for those who want their medical IDs to shine for all the right reasons.
14kt Rose Gold Plating
Rose gold plating is made from mixing yellow gold with copper. Our 14kt rose gold plated medical ID chains and tennis bracelets are dipped in this mixture giving them the appearance of rose gold. This long lasting plating is pink hued and flattering to all skin tones.
Silicone
Silicone medical ID bands are perfect for women, men and kids. These latex free flexible bands are lightweight, comfortable, waterproof and colorful. We love innovating new medical ID bracelets with this versatile material. They come in all sizes and colors and with a variety of clasping options.
Resin
The use of resin in fashionable medical ID jewelry allows the introduction of patterns like tortoiseshell which would not be otherwise possible. Resin medical ID bracelets are strong and lightweight. You can prolong the vividness of the pattern within the resin by not submerging it in water or exposing it to harsh chemicals.
Leather
We use suede and leather to create some of our most popular medical ID bracelets. This natural look is on trend and works great for men and women. Bracelets made from leather should be keep as dry as possible (hand washing is fine) and away from chemicals.
Cotton
We use cotton braid and cotton macramé to construct lightweight, fun medical ID bracelets for women and girls. These are quite durable and will last longest when kept dry and away from harsh chemicals.
We recommend proper care of your medical ID jewelry to prolong it’s life and luster.
